Electric Brad Nailer
An electric brad nailer is just the tool for installing trim at your jobsite.
A lightweight and ergonomic electric brad nailer is the perfect addition to your tool set. While pneumatic nailers are often used by professional wood workers, an electric brad nailer provide several advantages.
Pneumatic nailers require an air hose to the compressor, and these long hoses can be tripped over and can mar the trim you are trying to install. Besides, the compressor kicks on when air pressure is needed, and can startle clients and their pets. With an electric brad nailer you can avoid having to lug a compressor around for the smaller jobs.
There are two basic types of electric brad nailers; ones that run on rechargeable batteries and those that have an electric cord. Both provide enough power to sink an 18 gauge brad. Brad nailers are not a framing tool however. It’s important to know the limitations of the design and work within them.
Brad nailers with a rechargeable battery pack are convenient. With a full charge they can last long enough for most smaller joba before having to be recharged. Having multiple battery packs means you can have one charging while using the other. Switching out the battery pack when needed extends your time on the job. Rechargeable nailers are heavier. The weight should be considered when installing crown molding. Wielding the tool above your head can get very tiring.
Corded electric brad nailers are lighter and don’t need to be recharged. Your operating area is limited to the length of the cord plus any extension cord. Both corded and battery nailers can sink a brad at a rate of one every two seconds.
While most electric brad nailers are hobby-grade, many professional installers will own one for smaller jobs. They help you avoid having to lug an air tank and cord around. Electric Brad nailers have their place on the job site.
